Our School

Rocky Mountain Academy is a school under Education is Life, a non profit organization dedicated to education in Archuleta County.

Together families, started this school to provide for their children and other children opportunities that they felt would benefit their whole educational experience.

The school is currently small; with a few classroooms and mixed age groups. This may change as the school grows.  For now, older students and younger students learn alongside one another.

The environment of the classroom is based on cooperation and reciprocity. Each student has their own goals, and works together with others in projects.

The school is made up of many dedicated families. Families and teachers work together to provide home school instruction two days a week while also volunteering throughout the school week.

Parents are actively involved in the schools shape and design.

Our Program

With current programming, our school week starts on Monday at home. Families have goals that are sent by the teacher each week. Families modify these goals based on their students needs and expectations.

On Tuesday students come together to learn in school formal environment. The day starts with Math for the first 90 minutes before heading into a strong English Language Arts curriculum.

Students have collaborative projects every afternoon around history and science units.

The school takes many outings and participates in many events around town. Rocky Mountain Academy is committed to service.  Our students have participated in a number of service projects.

On Friday, students continue their learning at home completing their final assignments. Rocky Mountain Academy students read 1-2 books a month based on their lexile reading levels, write papers every week for ELA, and a book report/critique every other week for history.

Students engage in hands on science projects and deep dive discussions in history.

Rocky Mountain Academy utilizes our areas unique opportunities to take our students on multiple field trips, participate in service projects, and other in town opportunities.

Education is Life along with the parent advisory board are planning next steps for 2023-2024. We are asking families if they want a home school co-op, or a more traditional school that meets 4-5 days a week. If you want more information or want to be a part of making these decisions, contact us.

Rocky Mountain Academy will welcome new families into the school with an application process in March 2024.

Our People

Along with our main teachers, we have parent volunteers who spend consistent time in the classroom providing math support plus science and history instruction.

At Rocky Mountain Academy we believe every student has their own unique talents and abilities, and when strengthened in a nurturing and rigorous environment they are able to use these talents to better themselves and the world around them.
